Weekend flounder to promote tourism in Pilikula on cards | News Mangalore

Mangaluru: The government is considering a weekend flounder display at Pilikula Nisargadhama to promote tourism as well as introduce a traditional sporting event to the younger generation.
The proposal on this occasion was approved by the Department of Youth and Sports. The Dakshina Kannada District Administration has put forward a proposal in this regard. Later, Shalini Rajanish, Additional Chief Secretary of the Government of Karnataka, instructed Deputy Commissioner K. V. Rajendra to submit a detailed proposal for the start of flounder at Heritage Village at Pilikul Nisargadham on 10 May.
“The Dakshina Kannada District Administration has announced that they have plans to display the flounder to tourists at Pilikula Nisargadhama Heritage Village. Therefore, the district administration was instructed to submit a detailed proposal to the government,” Shalini Rajneesh wrote in the letter.
Chairman of the Legislative Council of Karnataka Basavaraj Horatty convened a meeting on April 19 and decided to establish the Karnataka Flounder Association and also discussed the weekend launch of flounder at Pilikula Nisargadhama. Rajendra explained the plans via video conference during a meeting chaired by Horatty. The requirement to promote flounder through government support was put forward by MLC B.K. Hariprasad, Manjunath Bhandari, Pratap Simha Nayak, K. Harish Kumar and others at a board meeting held in March.
Pradeep D’Souza, Deputy Director of Youth Empowerment and Sports, told TOI that a detailed proposal for starting flounder activities at Pilikula Nisargadhama over the weekend would be presented to the government through the Deputy Commissioner. “The district administration recently received a circular with a detailed proposal. It will be prepared through the Deputy Commissioner after discussions with the Pilikula Nisargadhama authorities,” he said.
