Strong influx of visitors boosts tourism sector

Qatar has seen an increase in the number of visitors, which has contributed to the development of the tourism sector. In April 2022, 97,854 visitors arrived, up from 13,312 visitors in the same month last year, representing a 635 percent increase, according to the latest Planning and Statistics Administration (PSA) report.

Of the total number of arrivals by air, 62,470 people arrived. The report said that the number of visitors who arrived by sea was 8,229 and by land was 27,155.

Qatar attracts visitors from all regions, with the largest number of arrivals in April coming from travelers from Asia and Oceania. According to the report, 32 percent of the visitors were from Asian countries, which is 30,966 people in April this year, compared to 7,780 in the same month of the previous year, which means an increase of 298 percent. Visitor arrivals measures the number of non-residents traveling to Qatar on a short-term basis for any purpose. It includes arriving at the border in accordance with 15 visa classes, including all types of business and tourist visas, excluding work visas.

Arrivals from the Gulf region accounted for 31 percent of total arrivals. The number of visitors from the Gulf countries was 30,258 in April 2022, up from 2,782 last year, an increase of 987.6 percent. Travelers from other Arab countries accounted for 9 percent of the total visitor arrivals, with 8,908 visitors from the region arriving in Qatar, compared to 864 in April 2021. Visitors from European countries totaled 20,019 in April 2022 compared to 1,472 visitors in the same period last year, representing a 1,260 percent year-on-year increase.
Travelers from the European region made up 20 percent of the total visitors in April this year. Visitors from the Americas totaled 6,007 in April 2022, up from 283 visitors in the same period last year, showing an annual increase.

In April this year, the number of visitors from other African countries was 1,696.
According to Qatar Tourism (QT), the number of visitors to Qatar in the first quarter (Q1) of 2022 increased by about seven times compared to previous years. Between January and March 2022, the number of visitors reached 316,000, compared to 581,000 and 611,000 for the full year 2020 and 2021, respectively.

Since the launch of the National COVID-19 Vaccination Program, 6,793,081 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered, according to the Ministry of Health. 1,558,140 booster doses have also been administered and 89.4% of the total population is now fully vaccinated with two doses.
