Sir Mark Rylance pays tribute to late brother | Entertainment

Sir Mark Rylance paid tribute to his late brother after his shock death last month.

The 62-year-old Oscar winner mourns his winemaker brother Jonathan after his death at the age of 60 in a gruesome bike race in Oakland, California, and Mark has admitted he misses his brother.

He told MailOnline: “I have only kind words for Jonno. I have known him for 60 years. He was a wonderful person. He believed that there was more to life than work.

“We enjoyed walking together in the mountains, and then he cooked a fantastic dinner for us. I miss him”.

Mark said this as he stepped out of the Apollo in London’s West End, where he played Johnny “Rooster” Byron in a sold-out revival of his hit show Jerusalem, before taking a break to attend his brother’s memorial service in California.

He previously said in a statement regarding his brother’s death, “I am very sorry to inform you that on May 28, my dear brother Jonathan Waters was knocked off his bike and tragically died from his injuries.

“To get to his funeral in California, I unfortunately have to miss three performances of Jerusalem.

“I hope you understand that I need to mourn my beloved brother and thank you for your support during this time. I hope you will be able to visit another performance of “Jerusalem”.

Jonathan missed his bike in Oakland two weeks ago when he was hit by an oncoming car, resulting in fatal head injuries.

Firefighters, who were the first to arrive on the scene, treated him, but after he was taken to the hospital, the sommelier, called “Jonno” by family and friends, died the next morning.

He had a daughter, Hazel, with mother Kate Razo.

It’s another blow for Rylance, as one of his two adopted daughters, director Nataasha van Kampen, 28, died in 2012 from a brain hemorrhage while on a flight.

Her death forced him to withdraw from the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony.

Brother Rylance’s passing is marked by a memorial service and celebration of his life at a winery in California over the weekend.
