Roddy Rich was arrested on weapons charges.
The creator of the hit “Down” (real name Rodrick Moore) was taken into police custody on Saturday (06/11/22) just before he was due to take the stage at New York’s music festival, the Governor’s Ball.
According to the festival’s Twitter account, the 23-year-old rapper was “unfortunately” unable to perform at Saturday’s event due to the incident.
They tweeted, “Unfortunately Roddy Rich is no longer performing today.”
According to E! News, Roddy was arrested along with two others at approximately 6:40 p.m. after authorities answered a call to the NYPD regarding a firearm found in a car at Citi Field following a security check.
The firearms were spotted by a private security company in the arena in the “secure zone” of the performance venue. Police officers found three men, including Roddy, inside the car along with a nine-round loaded firearm and a high-capacity magazine.
The three were charged with illegal possession of a weapon, possession of a high-capacity ammunition feeder, and illegal possession of an ammunition feeder.
According to TMZ, Roddy has been released from police custody, though details of any bail requirements have not been released. He is expected to appear in court to face charges on Monday (13/06/22).
Other participants in the 2022 three-day festival included Halsey, Flume, Tove Lo, Joji, Kid Cudi, Jack Harlow and grime artist Skepta. This year the festival marked a return to its usual June period, having been held in September last year due to COVID-19.
