From Los Angeles to Belgrade through Prague, Toulouse, and more recently through Rome and Paris-La Defense, Mama Shelter has established itself as a true institution in the hotel industry in fourteen years. Since the opening of the first institution in the eastern part of Paris, the chain, founded by Serge Trigano and his sons, already has sixteen hotels. Latest: Mama Shelter Lisbon, which opened its rooftop in the Portuguese capital in early April.
A façade clad in bottle-green tiles discreetly colors the main avenue, Alexandra Herculano, in the foothills of Lisbon. It was in the heart of the Rato district, a few steps from the botanical garden and the Marquês de Pombal Square, one of the emblematic squares of the city, that Mama Shelter opened its sixteenth establishment in January. A new challenge for a thriving French hotel chain that already has a presence in six French metropolitan areas (Lyon, Lille, Toulouse and three buildings in Paris) as well as London, Prague, Belgrade, Los Angeles and Rio de Janeiro. Janeiro. From the ground floor, Mama Shelter Lisbon welcomes residents and tourists from the Portuguese capital with table football, a photo booth and branded products. The ornate restaurant also speaks to them, open in the morning, afternoon and evening, with a menu showcasing local produce, right through to the Sunday brunch for which Mama’s is world famous. Around this table are 130 rooms arranged on eight floors and, above all, the nugget of the place: a magnificent rooftop with a panoramic view of the whole city and Tagus. After more than two years of operation, this privileged location and the onset of good weather provided the hotel with the perfect opportunity to formalize its opening. Great inspiration: while snow fell in many regions of France, on the first weekend of April, during the inauguration, the sun flooded the city of a thousand flowers. Beneath that azure sky, the event looked like a family reunion: there were all the managers of Mama, surrounded by many friends from the institution, founded in 2008, including the familiar faces of designer Philippe Starck or animator Stefan Bern.
