Member Mayo Oireachtas welcomed the announcement that the Achill Tourism Festival will receive €16,300 from the Rural Innovation and Development Fund administered by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Senator Lisa Chambers said: “This is very welcome funding for Achill as we enter the peak of the tourist season here in Mayo.
“I thank Advisor Paul MnNamaru for his support and work in securing this important facility.
“Achille is a very popular tourist destination for Mayo residents and visitors from outside the county.
“This money will be used to support Achill tourism and the local community and is a very worthwhile investment in the area.
“The Rural Innovation and Development Fund seeks to fund activities related to the promotion and/or development of innovative agri-food tourism projects, recognizing the importance of the agri-food business and the close links to tourism offerings in the region.
“The goal is to energize the rural economy by encouraging innovative job creation and sustainable business development in the area.
“Tourism is vital to the local economy in Achilles and employs a significant number of local residents. Funding of this kind supports these tourism jobs and businesses and ensures their continued sustainability into the future.”
