Another month, another travel record for the Dominican Republic

A successful 2022 in the Dominican Republic continued last month as another arrival record was broken, Caribbean magazine learned.

The country reported 561,323 tourist arrivals in May, more than any May in the history of the destination.

Indeed, this amount was 11 percent more than in May 2018 and six percent more than in May 2019 (that was 44 percent more than in May 2021).

For the year, the Dominican Republic reported nearly 3 million visitors.

According to the Dominican Ministry of Tourism, about 71% of visitors came from North America and the Caribbean, joined by 16% of visitors from Europe.

Looking ahead, officials say summer pre-orders are up 13.5% from the same period in 2019.

That number is even higher ahead of the winter tourist season, with bookings almost 58 percent higher than at the end of 2019.

It is expected that this year the country will be visited by 7 million people, which will also be an absolute record for the country.
